UK won’t suspend arms sales to Israel, says Cameron
British Prime Minister David Cameron announced today that the UK will not suspend arms sales to Israel, despite calls from opposition parties and human rights groups to do so.
In a statement, Cameron defended the decision, stating that the UK has “robust” export controls in place to ensure that weapons sold to Israel are used in accordance with international law.
The decision comes in the wake of renewed violence in the Middle East, with Israel launching a military operation in the Gaza Strip in response to rocket attacks from Palestinian militants.
Opposition leaders have criticized the decision, with Labour leader Ed Miliband calling for an immediate suspension of arms sales to Israel. However, Cameron has stood firm, stating that the UK will continue to “support Israel’s right to defend itself.”
